MEA
MEA: Chocolate, Vanilla, or Strawberry?
In my early childhood, chocolate, vanilla, and strawberry were the only ice cream choices you had. And then along came Baskin-Robbins' 31 Flavors, and suddenly I screamed for ice cream all the time! However, it should be noted, I always came back to the same three wonderful flavors.
My Perfect Vacation: Locked Away in My Room With Books.
I’m a word nerd, if you haven’t noticed. Over the course of the past few years, I’ve “muled” nearly 1,000 books to Baja in my over-shoulder garment bag because I like to be surrounded by books, especially those in the genres of longevity, self-awareness, nature, and leadership. And, I’m a sucker for a great poem.
Without Bread, There is No Learning: Collaborative Bread Making At MEA.
On the Monday of our MEA journey, bread-making was offered as a creative and collaborative experience, much to the delight of all….
Your Midlife Chrysalis.
I've long enjoyed Pash Pashkow's TEDx talk on why "the midlife crisis needs a rebrand." Is any other life stage saddled with such a rotten narrative as "a time of intense difficulty, trouble, or danger" (that's the dictionary definition of "crisis")?!
This Summer, If You’re Not Barefoot, You’re Overdressed.
If you’re a last minute vacation planner, we’ll let you in on a secret. MEA’s newly-expanded beachfront Baja campus is open this summer for our DIY programming of Sabbatical Sessions from July 17 through October 2. And, we have quite a line-up of talent that you can tap into.
“Aren’t You Spent? No, I’m Invested.”
“Aren’t you spent?” I was recently asked after co-leading an intense MEA workshop week. Without thinking, my answer rolled off my tongue, “No, I’m invested.”
Regenerate, a Poem.
Following on yesterday’s rumination on the word “retire,” a word I think should be retired, today I focus on the word “regenerate” since MEA is dedicated to regeneration, not retirement.
Meeting Matthieu and Mark.
The young mind is exceedingly focused but doesn’t often see the collateral benefits and costs of the decisions they’re considering. The older mind has developed the pattern recognition to imagine the less obvious tradeoffs that come with key life decisions.
Building Islands of Sanity.
One of our co-founders, Skylar, recently made an insightful comment during one of our team meetings. He said something to the effect of, “I am no longer hopeful that the world is going to turn around anytime soon.”
Could You Imitate Brené Brown This Summer?
“Space: the final frontier. These are the voyages of the starship Enterprise. Its five-year mission: to explore strange new worlds. To seek out new life and new civilizations. To boldly go where no man has gone before!”- Preamble Star Trek TV
